In an article published February 6, 2023, the Tampa Bay Business Journal featured the launch of TrenamTech, an initiative dedicated to serving the unique legal needs of technology entrepreneurs and investors in the booming tech sector in Florida. More information on the newly assembled multidisciplinary team, which brings experience counseling tech startups throughout their lifecycle as well as the investors that partner with them, is available at TrenamTech.
Sheryl Hunter, who is leading the initiative, spoke with the publication to share insight on the new group. “[Trenam] was doing a lot of the work already that this division will be focused on … and having a full-service firm with all these skilled attorneys is great, but technology companies are unique,” Hunter said. “So having specialization in the technology ecosystem — bringing that to bear on the traditional legal services — it’s what this division is designed to do.”
“It’s putting an identity on what’s already happening at Trenam and what’s happened for quite some time,” she said. “It’s more of a welcome, saying, ‘We are here to serve you.’”
Hunter, who started her previous firm focused on the tech sector in 2000 noted that the need for technology services has skyrocketed over the last 20-plus years, including with companies that are not necessarily technology-focused but still affected by technology-facing issues. “Very few businesses don’t have technology needs associated with their company, even if they’re more traditional,” Hunter said. “That was part of my reason for merging — I was realizing we needed a larger bench in certain service areas.”
“We are grateful to have an excellent team of attorneys with significant experience across so many of the crucial legal and business areas to our clients in the tech space, as well as extensive connections across Tampa Bay and Florida to help them succeed,” added Diana Hayes, co-leader of the Business Transactions Practice Group and member of the TrenamTech team. “TrenamTech is an opportunity to combine the talents of these attorneys and their broad experience serving the tech community and their investors at all stages, and we are excited to play a role in the continued success of this growing sector in our region.”
