In Florida Trend’s July 2021 issue focused on Florida’s legal industry, Trenam President and Managing Shareholder Marie Tomassi was profiled among the state’s top leaders discussing her leadership and the firm’s response to the pandemic’s immediate impact and the current landscape as the world is returning to normal.
Tomassi took on the role of firm president just before COVID-19 and led the response amid significant uncertainty. “The way we dealt with it was to communicate a lot with our whole team,” she said. “We tried to keep everyone informed about our current thinking and what it was based on.” She added that the firm was able to make it through without making any staff reductions, as shareholders took on the risk of how the year was going to go with a confidence that things were going to be ok.
As the world opens up, the firm is continuing its focus on its culture supporting each other and clients, including growing to respond to emerging legal needs. “We’ve been on a recruiting binge,” Tomassi said. “Our real estate, business transactions and private client services groups are all so busy. We feel very fortunate to be coming through a pandemic and still wanting to add people.”
Tomassi also discussed considerations the firm is taking for returning to work, including addressing both the sense of missed camaraderie of working in the office and the convenience of working from home with blended arrangements.
